Dolce agogia. Smooth green, glints of gold, hints of fruit.

Extra virgin olive oil is one of the area’s oldest and most characteristic products. Take advantage of your stay here to take a guided tour of an olive grove, stop in at an oil press and get a better idea of the amount of work that goes into the production of each and every bottle of Trasimeno DOP olive oil.

All you have to do is familiarize yourself with the local growers, decide which olive farm and press you would like to visit, book a table at a nearby restaurant and savour the locally made oil in sumptuous dishes, or enjoy it straight from the bottle on a piece of bread to fully immerse yourself in the intense flavour and aroma.

A visit to the olive oil producers

We highly recommend you take the time to visit an olive oil producer. It will not just let you breathe in the aromas of the countryside and journey into the characteristic hills that grace our region, but it will introduce you to the true magic of olive oil. When you visit an oil producer, you will meet those who work in this industry, those that provide all of us with that indispensible ingredient of daily cuisine.

Dolce Agogio, DOP – Protected Designation of Origin

In recognition of the high quality standards met by our producers, the European Union has registered some of our olive oils as a DOP product.

The most popular cultivar grown in the Colli del Trasimeno district is the Dolce Agogia. It is graced with a light flavour that is fruity, with hints of fresh grass, it is beautifully bitter with a perfect spicy aftertaste and ranges in colour from green to a dark golden yellow.  Other cultivars typical of Umbria are the moraiolo, leccino and frantoio.

The Trasimeno olive district is part of the strada dell’Olio extra Vergine d’Oliva DOP Umbria, the Umbrian olive oil producers association that strives to promote the oil, its culture, history and traditions, in the various regions.
